چکیده

The paper presents calculations for the radiation of a loop antenna wrapped around a metallic cylinder into a conductive medium. The problem has been solved analytically by using Fourier transform and Bessel functions. The evaluation of the analytical solution, involves the use of exponentially scaled Bessel functions, and FFT to evaluate inverse Fourier transform, with all computations done in MATLAB. The analytical solution has been used to validate a goaloriented hp adaptive strategy based on a simultaneous solution of a dual problem, and an hp strategy based on minimizing the projection-based interpolation error of a reference solution.

Goal-Oriented Self-Adaptive hp Finite Element Simulation of 3D DC Borehole Resistivity Simulations

In this paper we present a goal-oriented self-adaptive hp Finite Element Method (hp-FEM) with shared data structures and a parallel multi-frontal direct solver. The algorithm automatically generates (without any user interaction) a sequence of meshes delivering exponential convergence of a prescribed quantity of interest with respect to the number of degrees of freedom. The sequence of meshes i...

Two-Dimensional High-Accuracy Simulation of Resistivity Logging-While-Drilling (LWD) Measurements Using a Self-Adaptive Goal-Oriented hp Finite Element Method

We simulate electromagnetic (EM) measurements acquired with a logging-while-drilling (LWD) instrument in a borehole environment. The measurements are used to assess electrical properties of rock formations. Logging instruments as well as rock formation properties are assumed to exhibit axial symmetry around the axis of a vertical borehole. The simulations are performed with a self-adaptive goal...

Goal-oriented Self-adaptive Hp-strategies for Finite Element Analysis of Electromag- Netic Scattering and Radiation Problems

In this paper, a fully automatic goal-oriented hp-adaptive finite element strategy for open region electromagnetic problems (radiation and scattering) is presented. The methodology leads to exponential rates of convergence in terms of an upper bound of an userprescribed quantity of interest. Thus, the adaptivity may be guided to provide an optimal error, not globally for the field in the whole ...

Goal-oriented adaptivity using unconventional error representations for the 1D Helmholtz equation

In this work, the error of a given output functional is represented using bilinear forms that are different from those given by the adjoint problem. These representations can be employed to design novel h, p, and hp energy-norm and goal-oriented adaptive algorithms. Numerical results in 1D show that, for wave propagation problems, the advantages of this new representation are notorious when sel...

Multigoal-oriented adaptivity for hp-finite element methods

We extend an existing self-adaptive goal-oriented hp-adaptive Finite Element (FE) strategy to the case of multiple goals. The main idea of this extension is to design a new “quantity of interest” based on the solution of the direct problem and the given multiple goals. We describe an efficient implementation of the multigoal adaptive strategy, and we illustrate its performance with numerical re...
